A decision was made to replace the two Detroit 871 natural engines that were last rebuilt in 1989 with two newer engines. These engines were rebuilt and have less than 300 hours on them. They are Detroit 892 Turbos and will more than double our horsepower rating.

We cut out the salon roof and the old engines were removed by a crane. We then cleaned the bildge area below the engines. New engine supports and stringer caps were installed and the new engines and a new generator were then installed. We then re-installed the salon roof and glassed it back in place.

We also had to slide the fuel tanks in the master stateroom inward about 3" each to make room for the new mufflers and new 10" exhaust tubes.

We purchased the engines from Swan Point Marina where I am rebuilding this Hatteras Yachtfisher.

Follow us as we re-design the engine room. As can be seen in these photos, we installed marine grade plywood on the floor framework and then glassed these flooring panels to the hull. We then installed side panels and glassed those to the hull and to the engine room floor. We caulked all the seams with 5200 , and painted everything with a bright white epoxy paint.

Follow us as we continue this phase of Boss Lady.
